Tools for Experimental Psycholinguistics

Are you looking for a ready-made psycholinguistic experiment script? Or do you want to get your hands dirty implementing your own psychophysic or psycholinguistic experiments? You've come to the right place. We provide open-source software for experimental psychology. Just download our experiment control application and give it a try.

Perhaps you need someone to create bespoke research software or to implement a particular experiment. We're that someone. We can deliver tailor-made experiment scripts or other software for your (language) research. See services below.

About Us

Beexy icon

Beexy - Behavioral Experiment Software started business in 2013. We have twentysomething years of experience implementing psycholinguistic experiments and building experimental setups for phonetics and linguistics labs.

Our main development platform is Linux but we try to make our software run cross-platform. We mainly use the C++ programming language; where possible we use Open-source libraries to build upon.

See below for the projects we're working on.

Zep

Zep logo

Zep is an open-source application for implementing and running (psycholinguistic) experiments. It can be used for many different types of experiments and other applications. Development of Zep began at the Utrecht Institute of Linguistics, Utrecht University. Starting with version 1.8 development and support for this application is now conducted at beexy.

Products Being Developed

ZepMan

ZepMan logo

If you work with Zep you'll want ZepMan. It provides a user-friendly interface for managing experiment databases and running experiment sessions. In contrast the stand-alone Zep script interpreter (above) provides only a minimal interface, just enough to run the experiment.

Zep 2

This is a complete overhaul of Zep 1.x. With many internal and user visible improvements. Backwards compatible with Zep 1.x. Designed to work under ZepMan.

Future Developments

Response Boxes

Picture of response box

Today's desktop computers and laptops usually don't have a parallel or serial port anymore. This means to connect a button box to such systems, you'll need a USB enabled device. We have developed a very versatile USB response box.

Besides button boxes we'll be developing other devices such as babylab lights and things to satisfy your tech guy.

Dedicated Experiment System

Picture of a cigar box

Basically an experiment system is a measurement tool. Why not treat it as such and create dedicated experiment system in a "cigar box". No tedious system configuration necessary, it just runs experiments.

Click the cigar box for more information.

Zep Wizard

The to be created ZepWizard is a web-application for implementing experiments. It is in its conceptual design phase.

Other Projects

CAI

We've developed the Dutch Computer Articulation Instrument for the Radboud University Medical Center. This application is a speech pathology tool for diagnosing and classifying speech disorders in (Dutch) children (age groups 2-3 years and 4-6 years).
